While we continue to use the term Virtual Assistant or VA, we continue to foster the ‘employee mind set‘. There is nothing more harmful to your administration business than getting stuck in the must please the boss phase; so unless your client, pays you holiday pay, sick pay, superannuation, and you work from their office…
NEWS FLASH … you don’t have a boss! YOU ARE THE BOSS!!
(I’m not using caps because I am shouting, I am just doing the emphasise thing)
Here are my reasons for why you are running a business:
- You make the rules for your own business.
- You decide who you work with and who you don’t.
- You determine the hours you put in.
- You determine the type of work you want to do
- You provide the expertise your client needs to help them move forward.
There is no law out there in admin professionals land that says you must work for every client that wants to pay you. Simply put, some clients are not nice to work with, because they consider you an assistant, their assistant and they think of nothing at calling you at ridiculous hours of the night and day expecting you to jump to it and solve their problems, Friday nights, Saturday’s and Sunday’s it doesn’t matter because it is all about them and what they want. It is this type of client that will keep you in an employee mind set and stop you from growing your business.
You need to remove yourself from these types of clients, they do nothing but drag you down emotionally, you dread their calls and emails and they put you in a depressive state of mind.
So here is how you release that employee mindset
YOU TAKE CHARGE OF WHO YOU ARE – STRONG, CONFIDENT, A WINNER!
That’s it, it’s that simple. You are accountable for you, your happiness, your state of mind, your business. Don’t look to others to solve your problems, only you can do that. Others can provide opinions and guidance (just like this blog ta-da!) but ultimately it is up to you. It is hard work and there is no quick fix. You must be determined and focused to ensure your own success.
So how do I know all about this stuff? I’ve been there and done that, I’ve struggled, freed myself and with the support of some incredible clients (and you know who you are) I have gone on from strength to strength.
